Synopsis

Ever since he first saw a James Bond film at seven years old, Maurilio Fattardi has dreamed of becoming a secret agent. Today, he is responsible for the security of a shopping center and calls himself Agent Mao. He lives alone in an apartment in Rome and from his courtyard window he spies on the condominiums about which he knows everything!

A very attractive woman moves into the apartment opposite. She is Rita, a somewhat melancholic airline hostess. One evening, Maurilio witnesses a furious argument between her and a stranger. The shadows suggest that the man is putting his hands around her neck. This is murder! But when Maurilio arrives at Rita’s apartment in the company of the police, her body cannot be found. Furthermore, Rita appears at the door and looks at them in shock. Maurilio seems to be the only one to believe what he saw and begins a private and daring investigation involving the beautiful neighbor.

The truth is never what it seems and everyone tries to hide their secrets. Clue after clue, despite everything seeming to work against them, the two will manage to reconstruct a series of secrets and discover the truth, the real one though.

Directed by: Alessando Pondi
Released: August 30, 2023
Length: 1 hour and 41 minutes

Director’s note: A dangerous comedy is my fourth feature film and, unlike my previous films, Who I saw, Tutta un’Altra Vita and School of Mafia, it is a yellow, pink and black comedy. The film is inspired by a great cinema classic, Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, told with shades of Woody Allen’s Manhattan Murder Mystery and the light-hearted and compelling tone of Blake Edwards’ The Pink Panther, where the mystery mixes with comedy causing a series of hilarious chain reactions.

A Dangerous Comedy is a film about truth and lies, two concepts separated by a fleeting boundary, and tells how, to get to the truth, we must necessarily look for the causes of certain actions and not dwell exclusively on the final outcomes. But what is truth? This is a question that man has been wondering about for centuries. But today perhaps there is something new: the truth no longer seems to be so important. We live in a society where everyone walks around with headlines from fake news and dressed in their personal lie, which hides what they really are and defends them from the judgment of others. Everyone except Maurilio, the protagonist of this story. A pure man, who appears to us as he is, without secrets, superstructures and through his innocent, almost with a childish gaze.

The various characters in the story are all poised between truth and lies, everyone is hiding something, everyone has a small or large unspeakable secret. Maurilio (for everyone: “Agent Mao”) explores the lives of others, telling us that the truth changes appearance depending on the angle from which you look at it. His personal investigations examine each character’s point of view from time to time to demonstrate and discover that the truth is often a kaleidoscope of contradictory elements.
